Clarence Jones, after an English education, lived in Italy and Spain and became interested in 19th and 20th century European art through his friendship with English painter John Duguid, who was an admirer of Constable and Cézanne. For some year, Clarnce Jones divided his time between London and Paris; in the French capital he became one of the circle of Spanish artists exiled from Franco's Spain. He knew Peinado, Vines, and sculptor Dominguez and also studied painting at Beaux arts and in the studios of André 'Ho^te and Fernand Leger. Clarence Jones lived in England, continuing to paint while writing travel books about European countries.
